Then, teleport to SL.Goldify.net Headquarters (Changmi 247,102,107). Touch the robot for rates. When you are ready, pay the robot some Lindens. Since e-gold is a hard currency relative to Lindens (Lindens weighing about 9 on the May Scale of monetary hardness), the robot will hold your Lindens for a stated minimum time for security. How to get started fast with SL.goldify.net:
SL is a virtual world run by Linden Labs. There's no cost to download and get started. You can construct buildings, clothes, and vehicles and trade them with other players using the in-game currency, Linden Dollars (L$). If you want to own land, you need to upgrade your account and pay a monthly fee. Linden Labs buys and sells L$ directly on their website but also refers to third-party L$ exchangers.

IGs are currencies backed by gold in storage, accessed with a secure web server. There is a whole industry of competing IG providers, each with their own gold bars and websites. The industry was started by e-gold in 1996. The other IG providers mimic e-gold's model but add some innovations: GoldMoney gives you actual ownership of your gold and does strong identity verification, e-Bullion offers debit card transfers and smartcard authentication options; while Pecunix has unparalleled PGP integration and a geographically distributed server architecture. 1mdc simply stores gold in an e-gold account, and pays all your storage fees for you as a marketing cost.
With each of these systems, you can create an account (no cost), and obtain gold in your account by exchanging other currency for it (at third party exchangers) or selling goods for gold. IGs will usually charge a storage fee as a small percentage of your balance, as well as a small transaction fee to the sender or receiver when you make a transfer. You can also send your own gold to the IG to store in your account, but the amount of gold required is often a whole bar. It is easiest to find a trustworthy exchange provider that deals in the other currencies you use. SL.goldify.net will provide exchange between L$ and e-gold or 1mdc so you don't have to go through US$ or any other currency.
Your IG account is denominated in grams or ounces of gold, so many people use IGs to buy and sell gold to make money when the gold exchange rate changes relative to other currencies.
The transfers of gold between accounts in an IG are irrevocable. This is good for merchants because they don't have to worry about the chargebacks associated with credit cards. For the user it means you should have a basic level of understanding of computer security, and trust the person you are giving your gold to before you make a transfer.
Goldify.net's goal is to spread the use of IG systems throughout the Internet. The goal of the SL subproject is to connect the SL and IG communities by providing exchange between IGs and L$. This will spread the use of IG within Second Life. SL residents may want to receive gold instead of the L$ which is issued and managed by Linden Labs, and is not backed by anything and therefore may change rapidly in value. IG users may be interested to know they can own virtual property in Second Life and may want to pay for it with IGs.
